Post-It shopping list: Write your list on a Post-It and stick it on your wallet. When you get to the store, stick the Post-It to the handle of your shopping cart. When you leave the store, throw the Post-It in the trash. -Michael Leddy

This is perfect for the Hipster. First time I ran into the concept of 3x5s clipped with a binder clip, it was for this exact purpose. Only when I found 43Folders and the HipsterPDA did I realize the capabilities of this format. Now I use it everywhere.

Small handwritten card of various numbers: I have a card in my wallet that I keep numbers that I'd really want with me on occassions: IP numbers for DNS servers, the number for my favorite mechanic, size of the watch batteries that I sometimes need, etc. -Rosso 13:18, 3 Apr 2005 (EDT)

In addition - a list of some land line telephone numbers is a good thing to have. There are still phones out there that will not allow you to call cell phones - phones in a jail are on that list. I got into a mess and was thrown in jail without cellphone (taken obviously) and all my numbers on it, I remembered all of 3 phone numbers by heart - and they weren't land line numbers so I was stuck. It can happen to the best of us.

You can include reminders for PINs and passwords (Keep them subtle though - just enough to jog your memory). My card also has travel insurance policy and emergency phone numbers, and my phone banking number, with handy menu shortcuts like '1=balance'.

If you find a public restroom so kind as to offer "ass-gaskets", fold a few up into a 1x1 inch square and keep them in your wallet. This will allow you to be able to "go" anywhere with peace-of-mind. -Chrisrittersdorf 23:03, 7 Apr 2005 (EDT)

Not a to-carry per se: Every 6 months or so, I photocopy anything essential in my wallet and file it away. I photocopy my credit cards, ID, HMO membership, llibrary card, etc. (I skip the burrito punch cards.) Copy both sides. This way, if my wallet is lost, I know what is missing, and I've photocopied the phone numbers I need to call to cancel the credit cards, etc.

I have a Word document on both my work and home computers (password-protected, natch) which has the telephone numbers and account numbers I'd need to call to replace everything in my wallet. That way, if I ever get mugged or get my wallet lifted, or leave it in a cab, I can very quickly minimize any potential damage from the loss as soon as I get to either my workplace or my home, whichever's quicker. — WCityMike (T | C) 22:26, 2 Jun 2005 (EDT)

Carry a few small pictures of yourself well wrapped with plastic film. They come in handy for official transactions or just to share with your loved ones.

I wrote down on a piece of paper the precise sequence of numbers I'd need to quickly navigate through my workplace's voice mail system, so that if my train is delayed, I can pull it out and very quickly leave a voice mail message for multiple recepients at my employer to advise them I'll be running late. — WCityMike (T | C) 22:26, 2 Jun 2005 (EDT)

You can also save this sequence on your cellphone. So if the main number is 313-111-9999 and you need to dial 2, 4 then 5782 to leave a voicemail for ext 5782 you can save this as p2p4p5782 on your phone. This also works great for calling cards where you have to enter a pin and then the number.

Razor Blade - I have a gaggle of friends who carry a razor blade around in their wallet as a quick cutting tool for boxes and various other uses.

Be wary of carrying what can be interpreted as a concealed weapon in certain parts of the world.

Glasses cloth - The cloth to use to clean your glasses. Sure it makes my wallet fatter than I'd like, but I'd rather deal with a fatter wallet than dust and such on my glasses.

Book of Stamps - I have found that this is an indispensible item to have with me. It comes in handy whenever I need to mail something and takes up almost no room. -Wireless Mike

Small sheet of paper with photocopies of barcodes from all those plastic membership shopping key fobs.

A PocketMod ! I use a smartphone for recording and keeping track of information, but it's nice to have a bit of info and writing space in hard copy every now and then. The good part is you can customize it to do exactly what you want. Mine has conversion tables, formulas, the current and next year's calendar, and a few lined pages for quick notes. It's only as thick as a sheet of paper folded a few times so it doesn't take up much room, and it's very nice for times when you forget/lose or don't want to bother with your PDA/smartphone/Hipster. -Josh R.
