LOTR replica Rings
Wouldn't a life-size replica of the Minas Tirith from Lord of the Rings: Return of the King be cool? Heck yes it would. And these architects would be happy to build it for you - if you fork over $2.8 billion.
Yes, folks it seems a group of U.K. architects and engineers are completely down to make the dream of a Minas Tirith IRL a reality, but they're going to need some dough. Like a lot of dough.
The group has started an Indiegogo page hoping to raise £1.85 billion ($2.8 billion) in 60 days. Yes that sounds insane, but they do realize it:
"Our goal is to raise £1.85bn within 60 days. We're fully aware of the scale of our ambition, but we hope you realise just how special this project could be."
And it's not as if they just pulled that number out of thin air, they do have a plan:
"In order to realise this amazing dream, we have calculated our required budget to be in the region of £1.85bn. The vast majority of this expense will cover building costs - £15m for land, £188m for labour and £1.4bn for material. The remainder of the money will be invested in maintenance and public services until the year 2053. We aim to commence work on Minas Tirith by the end of 2016, and complete the project by the end of 2023. We are currently considering two locations for Minas Tirith, both in southern England."
And, like all good crowdfunding campaigns, they do have rewards. For £25 you can get your name on a monument and a free tour. For £1, 720, 000 you can get a 100-year lease on a luxury four-bedroom penthouse with "the best views, the best facilities, the best everything."
And if you're thinking about contributing but worried about this actually succeeding, don't worry, they have a plan for that too:
"If we don't reach our goal of £1.85bn, all pledges will be cancelled and you will not be charged a penny."
